Original Pilbara Document
The document below was written over two years ago and a lot has changed since then. This was before the Egina type lag gravels were unveiled, before more was known about Karratha and before Quinton shared his theory of what the “last source” of the Fortescue conglomerate gold was (hydrothermal remobilization due to Orogenic events). Some geological stuff in there is simply wrong but if nothing else I think the document gives a good background on what scientists believe happened in Pilbara a couple of billion years ago.
